2010 No-Gi World Championships

On November 7^th 2010 in Long Beach California, the prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi World Championships will be held and Blackbelt Universe will proudly take 18 representatives from Lubbock, Texas to California to compete in this year’s event. Last year we had 3 representatives travel with our team.

KCDB – Grand Opening & Ribbon Cutting

We hosted our official Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting with the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce on Thursday July 15, 2010 from 4:30pm-6:00pm at our new gym location (3007 50th Street Lubbock, TX 79413).

2009 No-Gi World Championships

On November 8^th 2009 in Long Beach California, the prestigious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi World Championships were held and The Gun Fight Club proudly had 3 representatives travel from Texas to California to compete in this year’s event.

‘The Gun Fight Club’ Head instructor Tony ‘Gun’ Bonello received 2nd place, a silver medal in his age division in the black belt class. This is the second year in a row Tony has won silver in the Black Belt division at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi World Championships. This year he was beaten by Stephan hall in the gold medal match.

The most beautiful thing about Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn’t the medals or the belts, it’s the great human beings involved within the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu community, the ability to not have any ego & enjoy the beautiful art of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu & make friendships based on mutual passion for the art. After the match, both Tony & Stephan had the opportunity to chat & have now formed a friendship through Jiu-Jitsu that will benefit them both by spending time in each other’s academies as training partners to help improve their games. Not only to win more medals, but for the ability to share knowledge and gain new perspectives in the ‘gentle art’ of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Both fighters have martial arts schools and the biggest winners are their students that will gain new ideas from both instructors.

‘The Gun Fight Club’ Assistant instructor Nathan sells placed 5^th in the open weight Brown Belt division at this year’s World Championships. This was an incredible feat in his 1^st ever tournament as a Brown Belt. He represented himself & his academy with pride and honor as he took on a former pro football player from the New York Giants & pro MMA fighter Jarrod Bunch. Jarrod is a massive athlete who outweighed Nathan by 90lbs. Jarrod won the entire division.

He received the gold medal and became the Brown Belt adult division World Champion for 2009. Unfortunately for Nathan, his 1^st fight in the tournament was against Jarrod. Nathan placed 5^thin the World in the overall standings at the end of the competition. This is an awesome feat! Congratulations to Nathan on a great performance in his debut competition at Brown Belt. We look forward to seeing you grow at every event in 2010.

Zavier Garcia and Gabriel Quintinilla

Zavier Garcia was our 3^rd representative from ‘The Gun Fight Club” competed in the adult Blue Belt division. Zavier recently turned 18 and competed with excellent technique and courage in his 1^st ever tournament at Blue Belt. Zavier placed 6^th in the World in the overall standings at the end of the tournament. He is one of the most dedicated & intelligent students at “The Gun Fight Club”. We are very proud to have him as our student. Congratulations Zavier you did an awesome job on the mats this year!
